Hey! Fat Girl!

I'm the girl you don't like just because I'm fat. Nice to meet you, too.

Oh God, It's Hot

There's nothing worse than being hot and fat. The summer months depress me. I hate being sweaty and sticky and wet and gross. My hair frizzes out, my clothes soak through, and the worst part, I get horrible skin rashes.

The worst is just beginning for me and will last 'til about September. Every summer I get these horrible boil-like rashes under my arms. Not in my arm pits, but on the insides of my arms as well as under my arms on either side of my breasts. Not only is it ugly to look at, but painful as all hell. I've had it every summer since I was about 20, and every year I pray to the sweat gods that it won't return. But it always does.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the rashes? Or, at least make the flare-ups not as painful? Any advice is welcomed.

Do any of you suffer from this as well? I hate being a fat woman in the summertime. It sucks.

I can attest to how hateful it is to be fat in the summertime. So I moved to San Francisco. Always cool and breezy. Some friend of my husband called it "fat man's weather," but f*#k him, it's true. I used to live in humid-ass Florida and I made it a point never to leave the comfort of AC. EVER. It's like a damn sauna outside in Florida.

I also made it a point to never wear skirts. The inside of my thigs would get rashes and friction burns from rubbing together. It was horrible. I never found a good solution to this other than making sure I wore fabrics that rubbed together smoothly with minimal friction. Those nylon-type basketball shorts, esp. with meshy vent-hole type material, work WONDERS.

A friend of mine once used a lot of talcum baby powder to keep painful friction spots like arms and thighs. Never tried it myself, though. I hope you find something that helps and I feel your pain! :(

If you can manage it, sun and air exposure to the skin can do wonders for that sort of thing. Not enough sun to actually burn or anything -- but just a little can be very healing....

I am feeling your pain on the sweating front! I just posted a little about this myself yesterday. I feel like within minutes of walking outside on even a mildly warm day, I am drenched. Gross. I am so sick of it!

Yes, the hotness sucks. No ideas on the rash, but I did find this chart which might help you diagnose what it actually is: http://familydoctor.org/545.xml

Good luck!

antibacterial soap might help you. tersaseptic is a good brand to shower with daily (and it's ph balanced so it won't throw off chemistry in *ahem* 'other' places.) :)

Hi I stumbled into your blog, I get the same thing on my thighs.
As another poster mentioned talcum powder offers relief.
It's the only thing I have used that does.
Good luck.

Hi Honey,

Oh do I know how you are feeling, my friend. I absolutely DREAD the summer months here in Southern California for the exact same reasons. :(

I take cold showers and use powder with cornstarch but I want to send away for a product called Body Glide from this website:

Hope it works for us!

I have to ask, do thin people feel this way? It seems they don't feel as hot, sweaty and miserable as heftier people do during hot summer months. Is fat really that much of an insulator? I wonder how many more degrees it actually turns up internal body temperature?

Hey sistah,
I feel I can call you that since we come from the same tribe...I really appeciate you blog, especially your courage to put out there everything you ate over the weekend. As far as the rashes go, I went to the doctor and got a steroid cream that really helped. Also, do not use any lotion besides Cetaphil Cream, not Cetaphil lotion. It has turned my miserable skin condition around.

And by the way, the heat sucks. I'm in San Francisco and we have had a heat wave to end all others. It has been miserable for me...feet swelling, sweating, lethargic, the hole nine...

Hang in there and thanks for your honesty.
